Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to lead brand strategy and management for the company’s largest multi-billion-dollar revenue businesses, including Windows, Surface, Search & artificial intelligence (AI) products.

The temporary Senior Brand Strategist will increase brand love and fan engagement via leadership in brand strategy, naming, brand guidance, empowerment, and research insights. This role has a global impact, traverses consumer and commercial audiences, and has a great opportunity to drive brand ideas and recommendations to foster growth and build desire for our consumer product brand portfolio. This person will work closely with product marketing, integrated marketing communications, our creative studio, product design, research, retail, and owned channel teams to drive cohesive brand expression and execution across experiences. The position requires strong leadership, collaboration, project management and communication skills.

This role is for maternity leave coverage from March 2024 through December 2024. The timeframe of this temporary role is inclusive of 30-60 days of training and onboarding from existing, in role, Senior Brand Strategist and 30-60 days of offboarding upon the end of maternity leave.

REQUIRED / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 8+ years experience at a branding agency or in marketing, brand building, and/or strategy development.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 8+ years brand/creative strategy experience, which could include brief writing and/or managing strategy on the corporate or agency side.
• 8+ years experience managing projects (e.g., internal stakeholder management, timelines, prioritization, road mapping).
• Experience in naming, brand guidelines and brand education preferred.
• Exceptional communication, influencing, and collaboration skills.
• A strategic mindset, able to balance short- and long-term goals, and to translate business objectives into brand solutions.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to articulate and justify your ideas and recommendations with clarity and confidence.
• A collaborative and inclusive work style, able to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders across different levels and functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Branding and Brand Execution:
• Lead associated campaigns with a strong eye towards creative expression to ensure identity and audience alignment against strategic goals. Guide brief writing/development and provide direction to teams. Lead campaign strategies to activate the brand and engage cross-company stakeholders.
• Develop and evolve Brand Guidelines in partnership with Creative Studio as the brand visual identity and strategic identity evolves.
Brand Strategy and Management:
• Partner with other teams and key stakeholders to align brands in the consumer marketing organization portfolio.
• Guide teams across the organization in consistent, multi-faceted, brand-aligned decisions and execution.
• Proactively anticipate and provide guidance to support product, customer experience, and/or marketing execution as it relates to building and/or leveraging the consumer brands.
• Lead or contribute to the development of brand narrative and strategy for the consumer marketing organization brands.
• Lead or contribute to workshops and training to educate teams on brand strategy and expression.
Data and Analysis:
• Partner with internal teams to help build brand perception, research, tracking and reporting through various types of studies to support broader organizational strategy and initiatives.
• Monitor brand performance, brand impact and look for emerging opportunities across the company and portfolio.
Naming:
• In partnership with product teams, lead or support the development of names for products across the Surface portfolio, ensuring that names align to product roadmap, brand strategy and guidelines.
• Drive ideation of naming with cross functional teams and approvals of naming with senior management.

Job Requirements

• Years of Experience Required – Minimum 8+ years experience at a branding agency or in marketing, brand building, and/or strategy development.
• Degrees or certifications required – This is no specific degree required to be eligible for this role
• Disqualifiers – Resumes showcasing job hopping and less than 12 months on access clock will not be eligible for the role.
• Best vs. Average – The ideal resume would have experience tenure of past experience.
• Performance Indicators – Performance will be assessed based on quality of work, meeting deadlines, and feedback from the team.

o Minimum 8+ years brand/creative strategy experience, which could include brief writing and/or managing strategy on the corporate or agency side.
o Minimum 8+ years experience managing projects (e.g., internal stakeholder management, timelines, prioritization, road mapping).
o Minimum 6+ years of naming experience, inclusive of market research, road mapping and project management.

Typical Day in the Role

• Purpose of the team- The purpose of this team is to integrated marketing for consumers
• Key projects – The resource will be responsible for being a brand strategist for integrated marketing.
• Typical task breakdown & Operating rhythm: The role will be made up of 30% Naming and road-mapping, 30% Brand strategy and positioning development and execution, 30% Stakeholder communication (emails and meetings), and 10% Market research.
